If your Zoom license provides it, you can enable Audio transcripts for your cloud recordings in Zoom and Zoom will transcribe your meetings automatically. Echo360 will pull those transcripts, along with the meeting recording, when it ingests the Zoom meetings per your app configuration and each user's opt-in status. See Integrating with Zoom for more information if necessary.
If, however, you also have the ASR transcription feature in Echo360 enabled, those meeting recordings may also be transcribed by Amazon's transcription service, depending on your institution ASR settings. Each recording CAN have both transcripts applied to it. They are simply versioned, as any transcripts are for media, with the versions being applied in the order they were received by Echo360.
For example, if the Zoom recording was ingested and had the transcript at that time (the timing of transcript completion from Zoom can vary widely), the Zoom transcript would be the Original. If the meeting was then published to a course and Echo360 is set to automatically transcribe all published media, then the Amazon transcript would be Version 1.
The Latest version of a transcript is the one visible to users during playback. For more information on transcript versions, see Transcript Versioning and Applying Previous Versions from the Echo360 transcript editor.
If you are already using the ASR Transcription service to transcribe your Echo360 video and audio media, you may want to disable ingestion of Zoom transcripts, just to avoid having to work with multiple versions. This can help reduce any confusion from users whose job it may be to edit transcriptions, to know which version to be working from.
The Zoom configurations page has a simple toggle for disabling automatic-ingestion of the Zoom transcripts along with the media.
To disable Zoom transcript ingestion
- Log into Echo360 as an administrator.
- Click the Settings icon (it looks like a gear) in the top-right area of the main navigation bar.
- Select Configurations from the drop-down list.
- Select Zoom Configurations from the left side of the page.
- Slide the toggle to enable or disable Ingest Zoom Audio Transcripts feature. It is enabled by default and all recordings are ingested with their transcripts if they exist.
- Click SAVE.
Note that if you disable automatic ingestion, the transcripts can always be downloaded from Zoom and uploaded to the media through the Echo360 transcript editor if needed.
